The museum room is normally home to the collection of the Holten general practitioner Jo Nagelhout (1901 – 1975), which was given/donated to the municipality. Nagelhout was a passionate collector of art and a Maecenas too. He was also the initiator of an exchange program, which brought national and international artists to the so picturesquely situated Holten. He made deals with the hoteliers, so the painters could pay their bed and breakfast with a work of art. On the same conditions artists from these regions went to the south of France to collect new inspiration. Thus a network was born from which all other kinds of activities are resulted, such as an art lottery, whose gainings benefited development opportunities for artists.

The summer exhibition Human Beings – passionately collected – is divided into themes and of all watercolours, gouaches, oil and acrylic paints we have the stories behind briefly recorded in a handout. Our own works of art are completed with two paintings from the collection Nagelhout, namely a portrait of the general practitioner made by Kees Stoop and a wonderful work of Jan Sluijters. You find some of the exhibited paintings on this website (look at gallery). Be welcome to view them in real. Perhaps we meet.

Unfortunately the Nagelhout Hall – in the basement – is not wheelchair accessible.
